Southern US Tornado Storms

Below are some organizations that are working on relief and recovery in the region:

What the industry is doing.

  • In response to the recent tornadoes that have hit the Southern U.S., the Nationwide Insurance Foundation has contributed $450,000 to the American Red Cross. This gift brings Nationwide's total contribution in 2011 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief to $1.5 million.
  • Zurich Financial Services Group and its subsidiary Farmers Insurance have pledged to donate $250,000 to the American Red Cross in the name of Bubba Watson, winner of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. In addition, Farmers gave another $50,000 to the Governor's Relief Fund for the exclusive use of the Governor of Alabama to support victims of the storms in his state. Zurich, N.A. is also matching employee donations to the 2011 Spring Storms Fund of the American Red Cross, dollar for dollar up to $500.

Japanese Earthquake Industry Relief Efforts

  • Civil Service Employees Insurance Group presented a check to the American Red Cross in the amount of $7,583. This donation was the result of voluntary personal contributions made by CSE employees.
  • Travelers commits up to $100,000 to Japanese Earthquake Relief Efforts
  • Marsh responds--working with the American Red Cross
  • Swiss Re working closely with the Internatrional Red Cross to assist with specific measures once local situation is assessed. Currently donate $545,000 annually in support of the ICRC. Matching employee donations of $50 or more.
  • ACE Charitable Foundation donates $200,000 to the American Red Cross for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Fund. Matches employee donations dollar for dollar
  • Seventy-one percent of Zenith employees elected to make charitable donations to the American Red Cross for Japan earthquake relief.
  • Chubb establishes a $750,000 fund for Japan Tsunami relief. $500,000 company donation with up to $250,000 employee donation match.
  • Lloyd's makes donation to the Japanese Red Cross
  • Farmers and Zurich, N.A. donate over $500,000 to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund and other charities to help victims in Japan.

 Haiti Earthquake--Insurance Industry Response

ACE GROUP
The ACE Group announced that ACE Charitable Foundation will donate $250,000 to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Development Fund in response to last week's devastating earthquakes. The foundation will also match ACE employee donations to the Red Cross fund on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Additional information can be found at: www.acelimited.com.

ALLSTATE
The Allstate Foundation has made a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist with humanitarian relief efforts. Additionally the Foundation will match every dollar that employees contribute up to an additional $50,000, for a total commitment of $100,000. Website: www.allstate.com/foundation.

AON
Aon has joined with the Red Cross to support international relief efforts aimed at easing the suffering of survivors. Aon will donate $100,000 directly to the Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund to provide immediate relief and long-term support to those in-need through personnel, financial assistance and relief supplies. Every dollar will go directly to the relief effort. Aon will also set aside up to $300,000 in additional funds to match colleague contributions to the relief effort. Website: www.aon.com.

CHARTIS
New York based Chartis, Inc., American International Group, Inc.'s propertty/casualty unit, is matching employee donations, with contributions going to the American Red Cross, the International Red Cross and the International Red Crescent. Chartis' senior management has personally committed a minimum of $50,000 to kick off the drive.

CHUBB GROUP OF INSURANCE COMPANIES
The Chubb Corporation has established a $500,000 fund for disaster relief efforts related to the earthquake in Haiti. Chubb will contribute $125,000 to Doctors Without Borders and $125,000 to Share Our Strength for relief efforts connected to the catastrophe. In addition, the insurer will match employee contributions to qualified relief organizations on a two-for-one basis, up to $250,000. If total employee donations exceed $125,000, Chubb will continue to match those employee dollars on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Website: www.chubb.com.

DEWEY & LE BOEUF, LLC
Chairman, Steven H. Davis announced that the firm will be making donations in support of Haitian relief efforts totaling $100,000 to the following organizations: American Red Cross; Center of Hope, Haiti; Doctors Without Borders; and International Committee of the Red Cross. In addition, the firm is encouraging employees to make personal contributions to these organizations.

HUB INTERNATIONAL
HUB International is matching employee donations dollar-for-dollar to the American Red Cross and the Canadian Red Cross up to $250,000. In addition, the Goverment of Canada will match dollar-for-dollar the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible organizations in support of the humanitarian, recovery and reconstruction efforts in Haiti up to a total of $50 million. Canadian contributions must be received by February 12, 2010 to qualify for the Goverment match. HUB will also consider all donations in the matching program.

LIBERTY MUTUAL GROUP
Liberty Mutual Group has committed up to $500,000 to the American Red Cross for the Haiti relief effort. A contribution of $250,000 has already been made and the company is offering a dollar for dollar match up to $250,000 on employee donations toward Haiti relief efforts.

LOCKTON INSURANCE BROKERS
In the wake of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, Lockton Associates around the world are responding by donating money to help resident survivors. Companywide, Associates have donated more than $16,000 so far through a Lockton San Francisco client, World Vision International, as well as other relief organizations. The Kansas City office raised an additional $55,000 for Global Orphan Project's Haiti Relief fund, making the total raised more than $71,000.

MARSH (MMC)
MMC has comitted a contribution of $25,000 to the International Response Fund of the American Red Cross to help with relief and recovery efforts.

MUNICH RE AMERICA
Munich Re America has joined in the worldwide effort to aid victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The MRAm relief plan allows financial donations to be matched by the Company, subject to an overall Company contribution maximum. Donations to the following organizations are eleigible for the Company match: American Red Cross, AmeriCares, UNICEF and Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

SWISS RE
Swiss Re has pledged CHF 250,000 to support the rebuilding efforts in Haiti following last week's devastating earthquake. Further donations by employees globally to their charitable organization of choice will be matched by the company up to an additional CHF 250,000. The funds will go to projects that are sustainable, supporting those that have suffered the most, and will be chanelled through recognized charitable organizations participating in the Haiti relief and reconstruction effort.

TRAVELERS FOUNDATION
In response to the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, the Travelers Foundation is sending $50,000 to the American Red Cross to assist relief efforts. The Travelers Foundation has also created a special disaster relief matching program so that Travelers employees may contribute between $25 and $500 to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts through the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, International Rescue Committee, Save the Children, UNICEF or the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and have their contributions matched. WELLS FARGO
To help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Wells Fargo & Company is contributing $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to assist with recovery efforts. Website: www.wellsfargo.com

ZENITH INSURANCE
Zenith offered employees an opportunity to contribute to the relief effort in Haiti through a $5.00 donation to the Red Cross. For evey $5 donation made by a Zenith employee, the company will donate $10.00. As a result of their offer, approximately 64% of Zenith employees have elected to make charitable donations to the effort. A check for $25,000 representing donations from employees and the company has already been delivered directly to the Red Cross. Website: www.thezenith.com.
