FOOD Share--Ventura County's Food Bank Become a Gleaner Are you looking for an opportunity to create corporate team building experience, collect service hours or introduce youth groups to philanthropy? Our Gleaner program could be your answer! Volunteer gleaners are out in the fields most days of the week, capturing food that would otherwise be turned over as mulch for the next crop. Our gleaners are always looking for new opportunities to pick, so please call if you'd like to welcome them to your fields. We also happily answer the call of individuals who in their yards may have more than they can consume. Please contact our produce coordinator Andy Murphy at 805-983-7100 x 141 for more information. La Casa de las Madres
Tiny Tickets for a Big Cause
We all have them. At least those of us who ride BART do. Those pesky little change amounts left on those white and blue striped tickets. Not enough to get you home after work or to the city for shopping, but enough for you to hold on to them. You’re in a hurry, you don’t have time to add money to them, what to do?
How about donating them to a good cause? Donate those “Tiny Tickets” to La Casa de las Madres! Do not throw them away.
La Casa has teamed up with the East Bay Community Foundation and BART to collect your unwanted tiny BART tickets and turn them into valuable cash for its nonprofit domestic violence organization and programs.
La Casa needs Tiny Tickets, magnetized or not. La Casa will mail off its collected tickets to BART three times a year, and the transit district will determine a total ticket value. East Bay Community Foundation will then disperse the funds back to La Casa. For more information, the East Bay Foundation is online at www.ebcf.org.
Collect your tickets, ask your friends, your co-workers, your religious groups, those at your cafe. Help spread the word. Then, either mail the tickets or drop them off in person to: La Casa de las Madres 1663 Mission Street, Suite 225 San Francisco, CA 94103 Contact: Renee Tremmel, Outreach Advocate, Volunteer Coordinator Phone: 415-503-0500 x 307 Fax: 415-503-0301 Email: renee@lacasadelasmadres.org Updated August 24, 2009
