ORANGE COUNTY, CA, May 6, 2011: Insuring the Children (ITC), a program of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), proudly awards a special grant to the Children’s Bureau, meeting funding needs for Oak View Summer Day Camp, held at the Oak View Family Resource Center in Huntington Beach, CA.

Children’s Bureau is a Southern California organization committed to providing vulnerable children the foundation necessary to become caring and productive adults through state-of-the-art child abuse prevention and treatment services.

“The Oak View Summer Day Camp has been a huge success and a very popular summer activity for our local youth. Funding for the camp is limited, so we are grateful to ITC for their generosity and commitment to helping these children have access to positive, enriching activities,” stated Michele Essex, Program Manager for Children’s Bureau. “We wish we were able to accommodate all the youth in our community but know that we will have some very appreciative families who will have the opportunity to attend camp this year because of ITC,” continued Essex.

Now in its seventh year, the free, two-week day camp offers up to 100 children action-packed days filled with art, recreation and academics based on fun themes such as “pioneer days” or “the solar system”. Located in a low-income, high-risk community, Oak View provides a safe, positive and interesting environment for youth who might otherwise have no place to go during the summer break.

Worth Houghton, ITC Board Member commented, “Once we learned more about the Oak View Summer Camp, ITC wanted to do everything we could to help. As with other Children’s Bureau programs, the camp goes way beyond traditional camp experiences. It includes fundamental skills building, such as interpersonal relationships, sports coaching, art, science, community involvement and current events. Not only does the camp keep kids connected to learning during summer break, it teaches life skills that increase self-esteem and confidence, helping kids to believe in themselves and their future.”

Insuring the Children (ITC) is a regional Southern California program manifesting the IICF’s mission: helping communities and enriching lives through harnessing the collective strengths of the insurance industry to provide leadership, community service and grants. ITC is dedicated to raising funds and awareness to fight child abuse and neglect. Since 2006, ITC has raised over $1 million specifically directed towards Southern California nonprofit organizations focusing on child abuse prevention and eradication. Nationally, the IICF has contributed over $17 million and 140,000 volunteer hours to hundreds of community nonprofits.
