The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) was born from the passion of insurance professionals to make a positive community impact.

IICF strengthens the philanthropic impact of the insurance industry by facilitating collaboration, coordination, and camaraderie. Working together as a united industry, IICF helps communities and enriches lives through grants, volunteer service, and leadership.

With the outstanding leadership and support of the insurance industry, 2014 marked a banner year. IICF is proud to shine a spotlight on the philanthropic efforts of the insurance industry and its ongoing community commitment. IICF's Boards of Governors and Directors are honored to highlight the 2014 year-end review of activities and accomplishments.

IICF has contributed $23.5 million to local community nonprofits since our inception in 1994. Having grown into a national nonprofit, IICF remains committed to our grassroots beginnings with a continued focus on local community giving. Funds raised in an area are reinvested back into the same region.

In 2014, $2,362,250 in community grants was awarded to 123 nonprofits across the country.

"The partnership you have offered to Lazarus House from the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has been extremely impactful to the work we do serving the homeless and those who are at risk. Please believe me when I say you have made an enormous difference in many people's lives."- Liz Eakins, Lazarus House, St. Charles, IL

Volunteer Service

Volunteerism is a core element of IICF mission of helping communities and enriching lives. Through the annual Week of Giving, IICF volunteers have an opportunity to tangibly give back to their local community. To date, IICF volunteers have provided nearly 200,000 hours of service to hundreds of nonprofits across the country.

A unique addition to Week of Giving in 2014 was the alignment with IICF's Early Literacy Initiative. IICF proudly partnered with public libraries in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York to bring "Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day" to over 5,000 children and caregivers through the Week of Giving.

IICF is proud to support the industry through three major leadership initiatives: the Early Literacy Initiative, the Women in Insurance Conference Series, and Standards, Benchmarks and Measurements.

Early Literacy Initiative

Through our Early Literacy Initiative (ELI), IICF has partnered with Sesame Workshop to create a free, bilingual early literacy program entitled, "Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day". In 2014, IICF entered into the second year of partnership with Sesame Workshop. IICF's focus this year was raising aware- ness of the importance of early literacy and distributing the "Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day" program materials to underserved children, families and caregivers who could benefit the most.

IICF's Board of Governors and Northeast Division Board jointly funded the 45th anniversary celebration of Sesame Street through the "Somebody Come and Play with Me" exhibit at the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Square.

Over 68,000 attended the exhibit and were introduced to the "Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day" program.

"To us, it's amazing that the insurance industry, who is not necessarily in the early childhood sphere, is really excited and committed to engage, deliver and make everyone aware of these kinds of resources and the idea of literacy in early childhood. I think that's what's so effective."- Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, Senior Vice President for Community and Family Engagement at Sesame Workshop

Women in Insurance Conference Series

Meaningful conversations surrounding leadership, gender and diversity have become continually more important within the industry. IICF helped to advance the discussion of gender diversity in 2014 through the expansion of the Women in Insurance Conference Series, holding four regional, one-day conferences in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York.

Funds generated through the series helped to support IICF's Early Literacy Initiative and the community grants program.

"Though we as an industry have made significant strides in creating a positive and equal work environment, there is still more we can do. [IICF's] conferences have created a forum for both women and men to discuss issues they see in their everyday lives and work together to find solutions."- Joe Tocco, Chief Executive North America P&C for XL Group

Standards, Benchmarks & Measurements

IICF works to elevate the industry's image by providing a clearer understanding of the philanthropic efforts of the insurance industry. IICF continues to collect, record and share fact-based philanthropic data from across the industry.

In 2014, IICF was proud to collaborate with McKinsey & Company to quantitatively review the philanthropic giving of the Property & Casualty sector of the insurance industry.

"IICF is successfully raising the public profile and image of our industry. IICF is becoming a strong philanthropic voice for the insurance industry, highlighting the charitable efforts of IICF supporters and the great work that is being done in our communities by the many organizations that the IICF grant program helps to support."- Gary Petrosino, Executive Vice President, Western U.S. Territory Field Officer, Chubb

Division Efforts & Regional Growth

True to our grassroots beginnings, IICF is a national nonprofit with a local focus. The work of the divisions and chapters is essential to the success of IICF and invaluable to the local communities in which they serve. 2014 brought many noteworthy accomplishments to IICF at the division and chapter levels.

Fundraising efforts were enhanced by the addition of regional events across the country.

These included Ohio's Oktoberfest, Boston's Blazing Paddles Ping Pong Tournament, and Colorado's Cheers for Charity.

IICF grew our regional presence through the launch of the Georgia and Ohio Chapters.

The formation of associate boards in the Northeast and Southeast Divisions enabled IICF to establish a national network of young professional boards.

This instilled the importance of philanthropy in the next generation of insurance leaders.

IICF saw continued fundraising success through the execution of four major benefit dinners and multiple regional fundraising efforts.

The Blazing the Trail Benefit Dinner, Rock Your World, Club100, Insuring the Children Golf Tournament, and Rock for Charity events all saw record performances in 2014.
