Behind the scholarship

The Legacy of Bill Henry & Dan Browning

About Dan Browning

Dan Browning was the epitome of a “boot strap” man! He was raised in a 600 square foot house in West Texas with his Mom and Dad, along with three brothers. They lost everything when this family home burned to the ground.

Dan went on to earn a football scholarship to SMU after being an All-State running back in Andrews, Texas. Through his talent, hard work, and determination, Dan established a successful career in real estate before taking over his father-in-law’s insurance agency. He later merged his agency into MHBT in 1997, where he became a partner and Co-CEO of Marsh McLennan Agency Southwest in 2021.

No one could outwork Dan, nor could they out-give Dan! He loved the insurance business and became a legend among his peers. The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) was another passion Dan enjoyed, and he loved seeing the good works done in the community by our great industry. He had a heart for people in need, he had no patience for bullies and disrespectful people, he was a man of Christ who married the love of his life, Inez Hammett, and he was a great father, brother, and partner... a Leader of Leaders!

About Bill Henry

Bill Henry was truly a remarkable individual whose heart and character stood above all else. From his humble beginnings in West Texas, where he worked his way through business school at Texas Tech, to his extraordinary success in the insurance industry, Bill’s life was a testament to hard work, perseverance and an unwavering dedication to those he loved and served. He had a rare ability to make those around him feel seen, valued and cared for, all while embodying the virtues of integrity and humility in every aspect of his life.

Bill’s journey began when he took a leap of faith and moved to Dallas in 1972, where he started his career with Texas Employers Insurance Company, traveling to cities across the country despite having little experience and only a few flights under his belt. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found McQueary & Henry Inc. in 1983, and later, he played a pivotal role in the company’s growth, turning it into a leading force in the insurance industry. But even as his business achievements were extraordinary, it was his genuine care for others that made him a true leader. His devotion to his family, his employees and his community was boundless, and his legacy is one of love, support and unwavering dedication.

Bill’s impact went beyond the boardroom; he was a friend, a mentor, and a “rope-holder” to all who knew him. He believed in people, in their potential and in lifting them up, never letting go when others needed him most. His faith in others and his commitment to excellence created a culture that was defined not just by success, but by deep connections and his approach to business and relationships with kindness, respect and generosity.

Bill never lost sight of the importance of family, humor and the simple joys of life. His legacy will live on in the lives of all who were touched by his kindness, wisdom and the warmth of his giving heart.
